How to choose the right coach seat: a 2+1 layout guide

Single or double, front or back, window or aisle? Choosing by seat plan to suit your type of journey.

On the same coach and at the same fare, the journey experience can vary markedly with the seat chosen. In our Premium 2+1 vehicles there are double seats on the left and single seats on the right. In this article we explain how to read the seat plan and how to choose according to your type of journey.

Single seat (right side)

It is the most comfortable option for solo travellers: no stranger sits beside you and you reach both aisle and window. Single seats are limited and can sell out two to three weeks ahead in season. It is an ideal space for those who want to sleep on night services.

Double seat (left side)

It suits journeys with friends, couples or mother and child. The window side is calm with a view; the aisle side gives easy access in and out. When travelling with a child seat the child by the window and yourself on the aisle to improve safety.

Front, middle and rear

  • Front section (rows 1–8): wide forward view and near the door, but door noise and cold air are possible
  • Middle section (rows 9–24): the least swaying part of the vehicle; best for those with a sensitive stomach
  • Rear section (row 25 onwards): near the toilet, but engine noise and sway are more noticeable

Near the toilet, door and galley

Seats near these areas are constantly busy and not ideal for sleeping. If sleep is a priority use the 'quiet zone' filter in the system; it removes these seats from the list.

Which seat for which situation?

  • Night journey: single seat, middle section, window side
  • Travelling with a child: double seat, front-middle section, not near the toilet
  • Business travel and laptop use: single seat with table and socket access
  • Passenger with a disability: front section by the door, near the wheelchair space

After choosing your seat you can change it free of charge with your PNR number up to two hours before departure. If a seat is free the change is instant in the app; after departure you can ask the attending host.

Seat plan tips

On the seat plan in the purchase screen taken seats are shown in grey, free seats in white and single seats in blue. If you want to know who sits beside you in a double seat, you can separate seats next to female passengers with the green 'female passenger' filter. This helps solo travellers feel more at ease.
